Hello!
My name is Mahina (pronounced like Marina, but with an H).
I was born in rural Hawaii, grew up in the deserts of New Mexico, and have joyfully settled on the Olympic Peninsula.
I have been described by a friend and client as a mirror who reflects people’s beauty back at them, and I love that. I definitely have a unique ability to see the beauty in all things and I have a passion for making people feel comfortable and beautiful in their own skin.
I am also passionate about nature and specifically about getting kids into nature, and I have been working for the last 5 years as an outdoor educator as well as a professional photographer. I also create and teach nature art at the public schools through the Peninsula Performs program at Field Hall Arts & Events center!
I got my degree in oil painting, which gives me an artistic perspective on photography. I love to play with light, color, props, posing and details, and my mind is constantly open to trying new and creative things.
I love all types of portraiture, but my favorite types are high school seniors, business/product photography, families, babies, and pets!
I work primarily with natural light because I love the softness it brings, but I do have a lighting kit that I can bring on location to get professional, studio style lighting for head shots and special effects photography as well!
All of my shoots are on-location, so we could take photos at your house, one of the many incredible nature areas on the peninsula, your business, or just about anywhere!
